The principal lawyers at Child & Family Law Center Pllc are: Judith T. New and R. William Schooley.
R. William Schooley is a practicing lawyer with over 25 years of legal experience. He has been practicing law since 1978. He is admitted to the United States Supreme Court bar, the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals bar, and all of the Courts of Michigan. He is a former Assistant Public Defender with Washtenaw County where he served for over 15 years as a guardian ad litem in the Juvenile Court. He has handled numerous delinquency and neglect cases. He is presently a member of the Children’s Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He has spoken throughout Michigan on the topic of Juvenile law to attorney groups and state agency workers. He is specially trained in the forensic interviewing of children. He has drafted wills and trusts for both adults and children.
Judith New is a child and family advocacy attorney. She has been in private practice since 1990. Her advocacy includes working with the Dispute Resolution Centers of Washtenaw and Genesee Counties, as a volunteer mediator and a trainer. She has mediated many disputes in the delivery of Special Education Services, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), guardianships, permanency planning in protective proceedings, and incorrigibility petitions. Also, she has served as chair of the Washtenaw County Bar Association Juvenile Section and is presently a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Children's Law Section, a long-time member of the Equity Audit Committee for the Ann Arbor Public Schools, and on the Board of Directors for the Learning Disability Association of Washtenaw. For several years she was a member of the Citizen’s Advisory Board for Community Mental Health in Washtenaw County and on the Board of Directors for the Student Advocacy Center of Michigan.
